Why online Turkish looks different
Fast messages often drop punctuation, use shortened words and mix standard Turkish with local or internet expressions. That does not mean formal spelling is unimportant; it simply means casual chat follows a different rhythm.
Common informal expressions
“Selam” is an informal hello. “Naber?” is a casual version of asking what's up or how things are going. “Tamam” means okay, while “aynen” is often used conversationally to mean something like exactly or yes, that's right. “Hadi” can mean come on or let's go depending on context.
You may also see laughter represented in different ways rather than a single universal abbreviation. Meanings can change with age, community and context, so ask when you are unsure.
Turkish characters matter
Turkish uses characters including ç, ğ, ı, İ, ö, ş and ü. People sometimes omit them while typing quickly, but learners should become familiar with the correct forms because changing a character can affect pronunciation or meaning.
Do not imitate insults
One of the easiest mistakes for language learners is repeating a strong expression without understanding its intensity. A phrase used jokingly between close friends can sound hostile from a stranger. Learn neutral conversational language first.
