Protect account information
Never give another user your password, one-time verification code, recovery code or banking credentials. Legitimate conversation does not require access to your accounts.
Be careful with money requests
A new contact may build trust before introducing an emergency, investment opportunity, travel problem or request for financial help. Emotional urgency is a reason to slow down, not speed up. Independently verify claims and do not transfer money because you feel pressured.
Limit personal information
You do not need to share your exact home address, workplace, daily routine or identity documents to have a meaningful conversation. Consider what a stranger could learn by combining details across messages and social profiles.
Moving to another app
Some people prefer other messaging platforms, but moving immediately can remove moderation or reporting tools available in the original community. There is no need to move a conversation until you are comfortable.
Photos and video calls are not proof
Images can be stolen or altered and video can be manipulated. Treat identity as something established gradually through consistent behaviour rather than a single piece of media.
Respond to warning signs
